YouTube turned studio recording artist Muni Long releases her fourth project Public Displays of Affection Too. Formerly “Priscilla Renea” on YouTube, much of Long’s audience had been established back in 2009. From pop to country, back to R&B, Muni was determined to get her break as a singer. However, her initial discovery did not result in mainstream artistry, but ghostwriting for household names through her signing to Capitol Records. Rebranding with a new alias and her hit single “Hrs and Hrs” from her previous EP, the Floridian shook the world further than even the songstress herself may have anticipated.
The 5-track EP is sequel to Muni’s last project, further establishing herself officially as Muni Long and not Priscilla Renea. Also introducing herself as an artist, not only a writer. Her talents shortly after release afforded her a partnership with Def Jam Recordings, via her SuperGiants record label. This gave the Floridian a chance to further flaunt not only her abilities, but her versatility as well. The short project avouches that the singer’s career can and will sustain past her track “Hrs and Hrs”.
Not venturing far from the R&B sound she employed on Public Displays of Affection, strong but mellow instruments sashay around Muni’s breathy and soulful vocals throughout the EP. The 33-year-old sings about love at the cost of a man’s pride, drug-like intimacy and sense of morale. As we can imagine with such a huge discography, the track list may have existed long before release but still resonates with many listeners.
The EP leads with her single “Another”, where she is letting her lover know she is unwilling to wait around for the expected. Muni also sings about “Pain”, also a previously released single, she feels from her partner’s dishonest love. While most of the project is love-enrapt and slow, Saweetie appeared on the third previously released track “Baby Boo” to give the EP an up-tempo vibe. The singer paints images of obsessive lovemaking on the following track “Crack”. The EP ends with avowed lyrics from “Cartier”, where the singer proclaims her self worth through words like “But if you want my body, babe it's a price you gotta pay. It's either with your heart or with your credit card and I like Cartier.”
Muni’s Grammy award-winning writing has already promised her longevity in the music business. Delivering her lyrics with her own unique sound will hopefully promise the singer legacy in the music business. "Everything happens for a reason. All of the things I went through in my past have gotten me to the place I am now. Being a viral sensation on YouTube prepared me for the way that the music business exists in 2022." The singer said in a Variety interview earlier this year.
