TayLo Returns To The DMV Rap Scene

Updated: Aug 17, 2023

Like many singers out of Washington, DC, Damonte' Cross AKA TayLo thought his first footprint in music would be left with a gogo band, as he recalls “Overnight Scenario” by Rare Essence Band as one the first songs to ever move him. However, both music and life had other plans. Just dipping his feet into adolescence, TayLo dove head first into music at 16. Heavily influenced by gogo, the District artist says “Being a native Washingtonian, GoGo music has a forever residency in my heart. Ain’t nothing like GoGo.”. Though Funk, Blues, Jazz and Yacht Rock act as navigators in TayLo’s musical sound scape .

His latest single “Paradox” released on Valentines Day of this year, was an attempt to draw attention to his new sound. The track features Mari Jaylin and was produced by O.T. Beats, both locals of the DMV area.

Artists like Gill Scoot Heron, Billy Steward, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have additionally contributed to TayLo new sound and creative nature.

Working in the live sound industry for a decade, TayLo got the opportunity to learn and grow his musicianship simultaneously. However, it was the spontaneous breaks from the music that stalled a larger growth of TayLo’s community.

Though just recently hopping back into his groove, TayLo has been swaying his listeners simply with his social presence. He says he has some fire in the vault though, we look forward to hearing more from TayLo soon.
